Master thesis

Share your masters thesis with others

When you embark on the final and most important paper of your education, it may be a great help to read other theses to get a sense of level, topic and scope. However, it requires that people are willing to share their theses.

What you will gain

Your thesis will be part of the University's digital collection and others can search for it in the Royal Library’s library system.  You will be able to refer to your thesis in job application or otherwise promote your work. Last but not least, you support an important agenda in society which is to make knowledge more open and accessible to everyone.

If your thesis contains sensitive personal data or in some other way has confidential content, you should not make it available in the library system. If you are in doubt about making it available, then you are more than seek advice from you library by contacting Ask the Library.

Please be aware that if your thesis contains images, you will have to ask the rightsholders for permission to use the images when making the thesis public. Otherwise you can wait with making the thesis available until after you have handed it in the Digital Exam and should remove the images from your thesis before making it available in the library system. You can read more about the use of images in written assignments here.

How to make your thesis public

When submitting your thesis in Digital Exam, you will be asked whether you want to make it public. This takes place at the bottom of the page, where you can choose to skip ‘project library’ or continue to  'go to project library'.

If you continue to ‘project library’, CURIS (Copenhagen University Research Information System) will open, and you will be asked to fill in a few key data, such as title, supervisor, and topics. When you have entered this information, you will receive a receipt by email, and that's it.

The university library will automatically be notified when your thesis has passed, and your thesis will be made visible in the library system. The thesis will be available online, and everyone can access it without waiting time.

If you have regrets or have questions

If you regret that you did not make your thesis available when handing in your thesis, there is still a possibility to do it after you have received your grade. The same is the case, if you made it available and want to withdraw it. If you have appendices that should not be made available, and therefore cannot be uploaded with the thesis in the ‘project library’. Then you have the option of waiting until after receiving the grade and uploading the thesis separately.

In all these cases, you will need to contact Ask the Library, where we will be ready to help and answer any other questions.
