The stained glass window inside the library is currently undergoing restoration
The window is decorated with a painted imitation of glass mosaic. The decoration of the window is made by the architect of the building J.D. Herholdt while the interior decoration is painted by the interior painter G.C. Hilker.
Paint on windows is not durable due to light degradation. Therefore, the window has been repainted many times. The current decoration has been degraded by the light and is due for a repaint.
A painter has made templates of the old decorations and a conservator from the National Museum has made sure that the correct colors will be used during the repainting. The painter will clean the old paint and repaint the new decoration. The stained glass will be painted with linoleum paint. It smells a bit but is not harmful. A few of the small windows in the building has just been restored.
The restoration of the big round window in the library hall begins on Tuesday the 14th of November and is expected to be finished in 1-2 weeks.
