Garden Drawings

The library's collection of garden and landscape drawings

The University Library of Copenhagen in Frederiksberg has unique collections of original garden drawings from the late 19th century to the present day, created by a number of significant Danish landscape architects.

The library has collections of Aksel Andersen, Jens Peder Andersen, Georg Boye, Emil Marker Deichmann, Troels Erstad, Erik Erstad-Jørgensen, Georg Georgsen, Edvard Glæsel, Ingwer Ingwersen, Ronald Lund, Frank Pettersson, Anka Rasmussen, Jørn Palle Schmidt,  Ib Asger Olsen/Per Stahlschmidt, Malene Hauxner, Jens Hendeliowitz, Agnete Muusfeldt og Inger Ravn.

Furthermore, we have a few works of G.N. Brandt, C.Th. Sørensen, P. Wad, Erik Mygind, Erna Sonne Friis, Birger Errboe, Sven Hansen and a smaller collection of student works from Landbohøjskolen.

The library's collection currently includes up to 25,000 drawings, along with related materials such as notes, letters, accounts, and plant lists. For each landscape architect, we have recorded and archived individual garden projects in folders and rolls, some of which are concept drafts and others are realized plans. Some have been modified or replaced over time, while others still exist today. Some of the projects have involved collaboration between multiple landscape architects, or several landscape architects have worked on them over time.

The drawings provide a unique insight into the artistic and practical work of landscape architecture in Denmark through generations, as well as the individual landscape architect's projects and working methods. Selected drawings from these collections have been digitized.

In addition, we also have images and sea drawings from various manors and castles, slide collections, drawings from the Royal Danish Agricultural University’s Garden over the years, and other archival materials on the subject. Therefore, we can often help you find both old and new articles, images, and other information about the various Danish landscape architects and their projects in gardens and landscapes around Denmark and, in some cases, abroad.

Here on this page, you will find brief information about the selected landscape architects and links to the digitized drawings. All drawings have been scanned at 200 dpi and are stored in a database with zoom capabilities. For more information about the library's collection of garden drawings, please contact Tina Lund.

Use and reproduction of drawings, for example in publishing, requires clearance of rights, and it is the user's responsibility to obtain these.
