Dogs

Old plates from the Pictorial Collection

Dogs (Canis familiaris) are as man's probably first domestic animals depicted in artworks from the earliest times. In the library's old  collections dogs are chiefly described and depicted as man's helper at hunting  and as a guardian of the home and the herd.

Below a selection of illustrations from some of the pictorial works from the years 1700-1800 depicting hunting dogs and dog breeds - including the charming plates in Götz' books.
