Horsemanship

In the golden age of horsemanship - Renaissance and Baroque - many exemplary books were published by the great champion horsemen of the time: Grisone (1507-1570), Löhneiss (1552-1622), Pluvinel (1555-1620), Cavendish von Newcastle (1592-1676), etc.

The Library has several of these masterpieces, which are often richly  illustrated and pedagogically instructive - a mirror of the riding ideals of the time, and also of the ceremonials and the scenography.
The  illustrated works depict the riding techniques of the Renaissance used in combat and war and the aesthetics of riding in the Baroque with parades and postures in ballets and carrousels.
