Illustrated works before 1700 |

The Library has many fine illustrated works in its historical collections, works on flora, fauna, gardens, and domestic animals - especially horses. Here you can fetch a selection of illustrations from a number of the book treasures. There are examples of simple wood engravings, elaborate copperplate engravings, and unique coloured plates. These illustrated works reflect the aesthetics and perception of nature of their time in various ways. |

1647 Hans Raszmussøn Block: Horticulturae Danica. Hvorledis en zirlig oc nyttig Urte-Hawe i Dannemarck kand anrettis, beprydis oc ved Mact holdis. This, the oldest Danish book on horticulture was published first as a single volume in 1647 and again in 1649 as part of books called Oeconomia nova ..., which also includes volumes on bee-keeping, fishing, recipes, etc. The library's edition is from this set of books. The library also has a photographically reproduced copy issued by Wormianum in 1984, which can be borrowed. |
