Historiae Polyporum
In the final part of the large-scale work Insecten-Belustigung 1746-61 you find a comprehensive, illustrated description of some of the smallest and most primitive water-living animal forms of nature - the fascinating polyps. The work was produced by the miniature painter Augustus Iohannes Roesel von Rosenhof (1705-59), who was a passionate observer of nature and mediator of fauna in microcosmos. The coloured plates are naturalistic correct documentation of these life forms, but at the same time reproduced with the artists supreme flair for composition, colours and forms. |
