Courses in Information Literacy
KUB South Campus offers a number of courses in Information Literacy and literature seeking.
The courses can be booked by students (minimum 5 participants) and by lecturers.
Book courses
Introduction to the library
This course gives you an overview of the campus libraries’ services, collections and subject guides.
It also introduces you to the library search system, and shows you how to order materials from the collections and elsewhere.
Duration: 1 hour. Aimed primarily at 1st semester students.
When you have taken this course you will be able to:
- Use the library services, subject guides and collections.
- Order materials through the library system.
- Find our contact spots.
Introduction to information seeking in the library system
Acquire a basic knowledge of information seeking through the library search system, and learn how to evaluate sources of information
Duration: 1½ hours. Aimed primarily at 2nd and 3rd semester students.
Course description:
- Basic and advanced search for materials.
- Get familiar with various types of entries for various types of materials.
- The option ‘Didn’t find it?’.
- Introduction to source criticism and using sources.
Information seeking for BA students
Learn how to target your search for literature based on the scope and focus of your assignments. Employ source criticism and correct citation.
Duration: 2 hours. Aimed primarily at 5th semester students.
Course description:
- Identifying key concepts in your assignments’ focus areas.
- Preparing a search strategy by combining key concepts of your search question using search terms, Boolean operators, truncation and masking for use in database searching.
- Source criticism and scientific probity.
- Introduction to reference works: handbooks and databases.
- Introduction to the open-source reference management tool Zotero.
Information seeking for MA students
Get off to a good start with your thesis writing. Learn how to prepare a search strategy by combining key concepts of your search question in order to retrieve accurate results. Employ source criticism and correct citation.
Duration: 3 hours. Part lecture and part workshop. For students writing or preparing for an MA thesis.
