Use Absalon

When you share materials with your fellow students – use Absalon. This is important, as you aren’t allowed to use services such as Dropbox, Facebook or e-mail for sharing copyrighted materials.

Danish copyright law generally does not allow you to share copyrighted materials with others. However, as a student or instructor/lecturer at the University of Copenhagen, you can in some cases share copyrighted materials through a secure closed network such as Absalon. Things like this are covered in agreements that the University of Copenhagen or the Copenhagen University Library/Royal Danish Library have made with the copyright holders:

None of the agreements grants you permission to upload everything to Absalon, but they greatly improve your options of sharing material legally.

Video

If you produce video material yourself use Kaltura (https://oer.ku.dk/) as a publication platform rather than YouTube or Vimeo. Kaltura is completely integrated in Absalon, and it gives you a selection of copyright advantages. Contact your instructor/lecturer if you publish on Kaltura.

Links on Absalon

There are several ways to ensure correct linking – the simplest is always to go through ‘Search’ on the Royal Danish Library’s webpage.

Links for articles and chapters in e-books

There are multiple ways to link articles:

  • You can search directly on the article’s title in ‘Search’. When you found the correct article, you simply have to click on the title and then click on “Link”, which gives you the permalink.
  • If the article has a DOI number, it is possible to create a stable link with a DOI link generator:

If you cannot find the article by title, try searching using the journal’s title instead. From there click your way to the article on the journal’s website. Then use one of the above methods to create a stable link.
