More on Copyright

About copyright

Copyright protects both the creator of a work and the work itself. A work can be defined as texts, music, pictures, websites etc.

Additionally, copyright ensures that artists, authors etc. receive an income that make it possible for them to continue creating new textbooks, art etc.

Furthermore, it motivates publishers, companies, producers and distributors to invest in the development and production of new books and cultural products. As a result, copyright is part of ensuring great cultural diversity in Denmark, and additionally ensures the development of it.

Old books and other works

If all originators of a work (authors and potential translators) have died more than 70 years earlier, the copyright protection has expired, and you can use the text freely without limitations in extent.

A complicated area

Copyright is a complicated set of rules that can be difficult to navigate. You can easily end up doing something wrong without being aware of it.

You particularly have to be aware of the context that you use a material in. Is it for personal use, or is it material that you are sharing with others such as your fellow students?
