Step Outside - Explore the Outdoors

City Campus: Just 250 meters down Gothersgade, the Botanical Garden offers the perfect escape—an extension of the library's own backyard. Here, you can immerse yourself in peaceful greenery and momentarily forget you're in the heart of the city. The garden is beautiful year-round, and if you're craving a tropical vibe, students can enjoy a discount on entry to the Palm House.
Frederiksberg Campus: Established in 1858, the Garden of the Danish University of Agriculture is a hidden gem of lush landscapes. Just a short stroll from the library, it features a sprawling park, a tranquil lake with nearly tame ducks, a fragrant rose garden, and a cozy café. With over 6,000 different plants, historical surroundings, and inviting green spaces, it’s ideal for a break—whether you want to take a walk, rest on the grass, or enjoy a cup of coffee at Café Væksthuset. If you're feeling playful, there's even a free-to-use petanque court near the café.
The library has benches out front, perfect for both lunch and short breaks. If you venture further into the green areas on campus, you’ll find benches tucked away in peaceful spots—whether in the garden, beneath the willow tree by the lake, in the rose garden, near Gimle, or in many other inviting locations.
North Campus: Enjoy lunch outdoors beneath the magnolia trees in the garden in front of the library or take a short break on one of the benches. For a more secluded retreat, explore the small hidden garden behind the building, where you can dine at the tables and benches—or, in the fall, gather chestnuts from the old chestnut tree that stands at its heart.
Take a stroll through North Campus and experience Wild Campus, a vibrant green space created in 2015 in collaboration with local residents, students, and nature enthusiasts. Spread across five unique nature areas in the University Park, it showcases more than 10,000 flowers from 80 different wild species. This urban oasis brings Danish nature right to the city, offering a peaceful escape amidst flourishing biodiversity.
South Campus: Soak up the sun on the brick-clad hills of Karen Blixens Plads, a striking design by the architectural firm COBE. Take a break on the stairs with lunch, a good book, or a chat with a friend.
Venture beyond the hills, and you’ll find Grønningen, where vibrant flower beds, a multi-purpose court, and outdoor training equipment invite you to move and unwind. If you're up for a longer escape, head to Amager Fælled, where water, grazing cows, and wild nature offer a refreshing retreat—plus, you can gather mirabelle plums at the start of the semester.
If you take the path around the library in the opposite direction, you can follow the canals down to DR, admiring the architecture along the way. And if you’re in the mood for a treat, stop by Ismageriet to sweeten your stroll.
